Project Overview

LME is carrying out a complete renovation and conversion of a former school toilet and changing block at the Old School House in South Kyme.

The existing concrete roof has been removed and the failed floor will be rebuilt with new hardcore, drainage, insulation and concrete. A goalpost steel structure, new steels and timber trusses will support the new pitched roof.

The finished layout will include a self-contained annex with kitchen and living space, one bedroom, bathroom, dressing area and patio doors, alongside a double garage and separate outside storage.

Filmed update: steelwork and the planned layout

Lee’s walkthrough shows the installed steels and goalpost structures, with one further steel structure still to be installed before the roof trusses. The central goalpost frame will be built around in brickwork to form the two garage-door openings.

The planned annex includes kitchen and living space, a bedroom and en-suite, with patio doors opening onto a patio. The adjoining area will form a double garage, with separate outside storage or workshop space. An opening used during the work will be closed later.

Lee explained that the old garage roof was a tin structure and the annex had an uninsulated concrete roof. The existing roofs were removed because they were unsuitable for the proposed conversion and its building-regulation requirements. This describes the decision on this building, rather than a rule applying to every outbuilding.
