Garage Conversions in Sleaford & Lincolnshire
Make better use of an existing garage with a layout planned around your home, from utility space to a room with retained storage.
Turn underused garage space into a useful part of your home
A garage conversion starts with understanding what the extra room needs to do. You might want a utility room that frees up the kitchen, or an adapted space that retains a separate area for tools and storage. LME Building Contractors discusses the existing structure, access and layout before agreeing the work.
Planning a garage utility room
In Lee’s Bassingham filming update, the customers wanted to move their washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge freezer out of the kitchen. The proposed conversion was mapped around those appliances, with new drainage and first-fix electrical work to suit their positions. No completed-project photographs are available for that conversion yet.
Lee also described insulated floor and wall construction, ventilation, a lowered ceiling and a partition separating the utility area from storage at the front. These are the proposals for that particular garage. Your specification should follow the condition and intended use of your own building.
Storage, insulation and connections
Decide early what must stay in the garage and what should move into the new room. This helps establish the partition position, routes for services and the usable floor area. Existing floor levels, the roof and the connection to the house also need discussing before finishes are chosen.
Conversion or rebuilding?
Some projects need more than internal adaptation. The Cleethorpes renovation involved rebuilding an old garage-side structure with new foundations and structural openings. That is a different scope from fitting out a utility room inside an existing garage. A site visit helps identify the right approach; any necessary design and approvals should be established for the proposed work.
Start with the room you need
Tell LME your location, the garage’s current use, the appliances or furniture you need to accommodate and whether storage must remain. Read what to plan for a garage-to-utility conversion, explore home extensions or complete renovations, and see the separate Old School House conversion project.
